Our Charter Story
Surfside Charters is owned and operated by husband and wife team, Kris and Debi Bergstrom. The Bergstrom’s made the Cayman Islands their home in the early 1960’s building one of the first boutique hotels on island where Watersports activities were an important part of the offering to its guests. As teenagers, both worked in Watersports-related businesses and with a large family, being on the water has always been a big part of their lives. In 2013 Kris & Debi opened the very popular Beach Bar & Watersports business, Surfside Beach Ltd. When Surfside closed its doors to make way for the Kimpton Hotel on Seven Mile Beach, the Bergstroms brought their yacht that was located in the BVI back to Cayman, and decided to launch Surfside Charters with the personal commitment to providing the most relaxing and comfortable on the water experience.

As a private charter, you have the luxury of setting your own itinerary. Surfside Charters offers it all from Sailing Charters, Cruising, Snorkeling, Stingray City, Starfish Point, Bioluminescence Tours, Paddle Boarding, Deep Sea & Reef Fishing, Sunset Cruises, Tubing, Mangrove Cruises, or just relaxing taking in the wonders of our beautiful island. Morning, Afternoon, or Evening trips are available.
Surfside Charters caters to you and can help you to design your perfect adventure. Our friendly and professional crew can provide our guests with their own unique experiences throughout all areas of our beautiful island, from luxury tranquil sailing excursions or adventurous days out fishing, snorkeling or paddle boarding. Full catering services with food and drink is available with all charters.

Growing up in a hotel on Island, Kris learned the love of the water and boats at a very early age and has been on the water all his life. Kris & his wife Debi founded Surfside Charters because of their love for the water and great customer service. His passion for the tranquility for Sailing and the need for speed is why Surfside has such diversity in our yachts. He is also a commercial airline pilot, so happy to be a helm on the water or in the air. Kris loves to share Cayman’s history and his passion for the water and the beauty of our island with guests on board.

Born in Jamaica, Debi relocated to the Cayman Islands with her family in 1976 and grew up in Grand Cayman. She has seen the island develop and grow into the Jewel of the Caribbean. Debi is very passionate about what Cayman has to offer. Debi and her husband Kris founded Surfside Charters because of their love for the water and great customer service. Outstanding Customer Service and attention to detail are some of the things Debi prides herself on. With over 30 years as a business owner, Debi brings her unique perspective to lead her team. Specializing in creating and ensuring clients needs are met with excellent customer service.

CAPTAIN ROB NELSON
Place of Birth: Isle of Mann

Experiences/ Qualifications:
Rob was born in the Isle of Mann but moved to Bermuda at a very young age where he found his love of sailing. Moving to Cayman when he was sixteen Rob has run the gambit on marine watersports working as a divemaster, a submarine pilot and a pirate captain for the Jolly Roger. Rob has been a delivery captain taking a 92ft Grand Bank Schooner an original wooden tall ship from Grand Cayman to Newfoundland. Rob briefly moved back to the Isle of Mann where he did a lot of offshore sail racing in and around the UK. Rob was the overall of winner for 2013 Irish Offshore Racing Series. Through all this Rob always thought of the Cayman Islands as home and has been running trips in the North Sound for the past 10 years. He knows the stingrays personally and they know him.

Matt grew up on the water and has been on boats all his life. He spent 9 months on a tall ship sailing the world, has crossed the Atlantic twice and has done over 18,000 nautical miles. Worked on both charter sailboats, power and fishing boats. He is an avid scuba diver and enjoys sharing his adventures and our beautiful island with guests. Matt offers excellent customer service and is outgoing, friendly and attentive.
